P.G.Ps. Appeal 2006.

Our PGP .Bro Brian Maitland KOM. .decided that his appeal for 2006 would be in aid of the HARLEQUINS PROJECT. This local organisation uses music and dance to look after and assist adults with learning difficulties.

Like most of these causes they get very little if any funding from Government sources. They depend on donations from local charities and volunteer staff to keep them going.

Towards the end of October a coffee evening was held in the Town Hall ELGIN. Various members' buffesses and friends assisted in the sale of tombola & raffle tickets. The ladies served tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes scones & biscuits. This being covered by the entrance fee of £1

The majority of prizes were donated by members, friends, and local businesses.

At the end of the evening the PGP announced that the sum of Approx. £900 had been collected. towards his appeal. The evening had been organised by a small committee of members & their Buffesses.

In November the ELGIN Model Railway Club had their annual Modelfair in ELGIN Town Hall , their chairman being Bro. Mike BRENTON CP. A stall, free of charge, was offered to the PGP at this fair as this two day event offered an ideal opportunity to generate more funds. A bottle stall was organised along with the sale of Prize draw tickets and the handsome sum of approximately £ 350 was collected.

In December the PGPs annual prize draw was held at the Golden Pheasant, ELGIN which is the meeting places for most of the ELGIN based lodges. Members buffesses, and friends witnessed the draw of 50 donated prizes to winners from a wide cross section of the local community. Approximately £620 was collected. After which a buffet was served and the mandatory gatter & juniper heartily consumed. Donations from all of these fund raising schemes, plus contributions from PGL and Minor Lodges, raised the magnificent sum of £2500 pounds. A presentation was arranged at the Golden Pheasant for Monday the 29 th January 2007 so that Alison McKay, and Christine Paterson of the HARLEQUINS Project could take charge of the cash and use it to provide their own stage equipment.

The PGP.has been overwhelmed by the support and response to his appeal and he would like to thank Bro Chas & Mrs.Shaw, Bro Brian & Mrs Turnbull, Bro George & Mrs Hoey and last but not least his own Buffess Elizabeth for the work done organising these events. Bro Mike Brenton for printing the draw tickets and securing the use of the Town Hall. Finally all Province members Buffesses & friends for their commitment, support and assistance to this project.

On the same evening Bro Mike Crossland ROH presented a gift of £250 pounds to the Long Term Illness Group. This organisation assists and looks after persons who suffer from a long term illness visiting them at home and arranging transport for elderly relatives and friends to visit them. We hope this gift will help towards the expenses of this dedicated Group..
